Fort Walton Beach has a population of 22,740 residents as of the 2020 census. It is the principal city of the Fort Walton Beach−Crestview−Destin Metropolitan Statistical Area. Fort Walton Beach is a year-round fishing and beach community. Its busiest time of the year is the summer, causing a boost to the local economy because of seasonal migration. The City of Fort Walton Beach adopted a Downtown Business and Entertainment District for Downtown Fort Walton Beach on March 25, 2014. The District went into effect on May 1, 2014. Encompassing the heart of downtown Fort Walton Beach, the Business & Entertainment District is your hub for shopping, dining, arts, entertainment and more. From family-friendly events and waterfront public parks to vibrant entertainment and nightlife, the Business and Entertainment District has something for everyone. Fort Walton Beach is also home to the beautiful Gulfarium Marine Adventure Park which children and adults will enjoy. There are a lot of different homes in Fort Walton, some new and some are older more established homes. They have plenty of restaurant's, movie theatres, a mall and a Fort Walton Beach Hospital is also nearby. Including 2 Air Force Bases known as Hurlburt and Eglin Air Force Base. Red Lobster, Olive Garden, and Old Bay Steamer are just a few of the restaurants. Fort Walton has plenty of restaurants for your dining experience. As a bonus to tourists and locals, Fort Walton Beach is the home of the original Crab Shack out on Okaloosa Island and the food is delicious.
